Hardin County is seen as a manufacturing, agriculture, and educational center because of the presence of a dynamic blend of major manufacturers, a diverse agriculture base, and one of the nation’s finest private universities.

Hardin County's manufacturing community reflects the traditional as well as the future. Sypris Technologies Kenton, Inc., a major truck axle manufacturer, and Ada Technologies, a supplier to Honda, represent the automotive industry. Wilson Sporting Goods produces the finest of Wilson's leather sporting materials including footballs for the NFL.

Precision Strip Inc. is a toll processor of flat rolled metal supplying the metal needs of regional industries.

The polymer industry is well represented from production of raw polymers by the Durez Corp., to the design and making of molds by Pleasant Precision, and production of plastic parts by Plastic Systems, Diamond Plastics and Associated Plastics.

International Paper, the county's largest employer, produces paper and injection molded plastic container products for the food industry.
