These self-guided walking tours offer a chance to visit and enjoy Hardin County Ohio's downtown areas not only for what is there today but take a look back and enjoy their history too.
Kenton
The Historic Courthouse District includes downtown Kenton plus the surrounding areas north on Detroit and Main Streets. Much of the District was constructed during the late 1890’s and early 1900’s and many buildings are on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Today, it is filled with county and city offices, financial institutions, retailers and restaurants. The District is also the site of the Hardin County Farmers Market, Christmas Around the Square, and numerous holiday parades and events.
Use this guide as you visit Kenton’s Historic Courthouse District. Expect impressive architecture mixed with small town charm as you stroll along the tree lined streets.

Mount Victory
Mount Victory’s Historic District includes the downtown and surrounding areas of Main and Taylor Streets. In 1851, stores and cabins were erected mostly near the Town Cemetery and lumber and general merchandise were the principal businesses during the early years. There was also a brick factory located on Main Street, which produced the brick used to build early businesses and residences.
Land for Mount Victory was purchased in 1830 by Cyrus Dille. History states Cyrus’ son, Ezra, founded the village in 1851 ”just in the nick of time” as the land was to be sold off to Samuel McCullough who had laid out the nearby village of Ridgeway. When Ezra won the bid, it was declared a “Victory”, hence the town was named Mount Victory.
