Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance

Historic Courthouse District History

Mayor Tom Ansley formed a committee in May, 2001 to help Downtown Kenton businesses determine what actions would be needed to revitalize the downtown area.  A group of very enthusiastic business owners and community leaders studied the various components to a successful downtown area.

In the fall of 2001 recommendations were made and a new group was formed called The Courthouse Square Repair.

The organization has taken many turns and twists in its journey. On September 1, 2006 Square Repair became part of the new organization the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance. The Kenton group now has a new name, The Historic Courthouse District.

As the organization continues to evolve so does the idea and the spirit of all downtown areas in Hardin County that we can work together to share ideas and resources to further improve our downtown areas.

On February 19, 2008 we held our first county wide downtown development meeting. A good mix of people from through out the county attended and shared their successes, talked about their goals and discussed how we can best help each other.

It was decided that the group would like to continue to meet on a quarterly basis, with the meeting being held in various locations around the county. It was also requested that the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance continue to coordinate the efforts and facilitate the meetings.
